Fundstück des Tages
Posted in Fundstücke on 24. Jul, 2009
Once I got out of the vault, I went to Megaton to ask about my dad, and some guy told me to find the Galaxy News Radio or something. Anyway, after that I got distracted by Mr. Burke’s fedora, and some hot chick who wants a shitload of nuka-cola, and the Dunwich building and so on and so on…
Anyway… In my continued wanderings of the wasteland, I come upon this old auto garage or something, and in the basement was the entrance to Vault 112… Those of you who played this far in the main story know what came next, so anyway, it seems I’ve barely started my search for my dad and BOOM! He’s suddenly standing right in front of me. How convenient.
Now suddenly my character has mysteriously heard of something called Project Purity, and mysteriously knows somebody named Dr. Li and my dad’s assuming I’ve been to Rivet City. Well… I hadn’t been to Rivet City, so I couldn’t fast-travel there… I went the whole way on foot with my dad, and let me tell you… This man has balls. He’s an idiot, but he has balls. If there was any sort of mild threat within 100 feet of us, he would (in an always calm voice) do his damnedest to rock the shit out of whatever it was. He promptly used all the ammo in his pistol on a bloatfly, and we soon ran into a robot that shot him with lasers, and he ran straight up to it so that he could punch the shit out of it. Then he did the same to two radscorpions. He clearly demonstrated to me what a bitch I am for using guns, and proved in just five minutes that I could never live up to how awesome he is. But of course, he didn’t stop there…
This journey to Rivet City was hella long. Later on we came upon some raiders. As we were fighting them (me with an assault rifle and my dad with his bare fucking hands) I hear some explosions just over a little hill. So I think “Man, somebody must have shot a pile of cars, or we’re near a minefield or something…” But no. I soon come to find out that it’s a raider with a missile launcher. So by this point, my dad has found a knife on one of the raiders and he’s at least using that instead of his fists. He charges the raider who has a missile launcher, takes several missiles to the face, and proceeds to stab the shit out of her. The raider… Who had a missile launcher… Ran away from my dad… Who had a knife. Really though, I don’t blame her, since he’s fucking IMMORTAL.
I discovered my dad’s immortality when he had the brilliant plan to take on a super mutant with a minigun. Keep in mind my dad was still only using a knife. I didn’t realize he could only be knocked unconscious until this happened, so it scared the shit out of me. I was going at the mutant with my dart gun, this “terrible shotgun” I found underground, and all the other shit in my inventory that wouldn’t also hurt my dad. So when it finally managed to knock him unconscious, it turned its focus to me. I’m about shitting my pants at this point, so I’m backing up behind cover still throwing everything I have at it, but my dad finally saved my by stabbing the mutant some more. Huge balls, man.
Those were probably the most eventful parts of our journey. We did run into a gang of super mutants further down the road, but these mostly just had rifles, so I sat on the sidelines and watched my dad slowly cut them up with his knife. You don’t fuck around with a guy that hardcore. It was quite funny once I knew he could never die.
So we get to Rivet City… Keep in mind, this is my first time visiting. My dad goes up to where the bridge should be, and I followed him right up there… And he turned around and went back to ground level. I’m like “What the fuck dad?” and he’s like “DURRRR, IT’S THIS WAY! THROUGH THE RADIOACTIVE WATER!” so I’m like “Goddammit, I don’t know why I’m following this retard but he better have a good sense of direction.” So I swim after him in this toxic water and he just stops in front of the wall. I decided it’s best to get the hell out of there before I grow another head or something, so I head back up to the bridge and learn how to extend it.
I saved and quit right there. Hopefully my dad will have enough of a brain to get out of the radioactive water and follow me into the city, because that’s my plan.
So… Without spoiling anything (I’ll probably make a second character at some point), about how much of the story did I skip over? Maybe give me a percentage? It seems kind of lame that I’m able to skip a portion of the main quest like that. I think there should have been some prerequisite to get into Vault 112. You know, something that keeps me from entering until it’s time for it in the story.
